2 - antaka daitya hara – slaying of antakAsura by Lord Siva by His trident is mentioned in tirumUlar’s ‘tirumandiram’ verse 339 (tamil). ‘antaka’.
Alternatively, vanquishing of ‘antaka’ i.e. Lord of Death by Lord Siva to save mArkaNDEya who sought refuge in Him may also be applicable; in this case, the epithet will be interpreted as ‘vanquisher (hara) of yama (antaka) and other asuras (daitya)’.
Alternatively, ‘antaka’ may also be applied directly to Lord Siva – He being the Lord of Destruction (laya). In this case, ‘daitya hara’ will be taken as a separate epithet.
